Data governance software and platform

Data governance tool for your whole data stack

Dawiso catalogs your data, defines what it means, traces where it comes from and names who owns it, across the platforms you run. Your AI tools read the same approved answers.

For data governance leads, data architects and teams running AI on company data.

Self-guided, in the product itself.

  • SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001
  • 40+ connectors
  • Metadata only

What is a data governance tool?

A data governance tool records what data an organization has, what it means, where it comes from and who is responsible for it. Most tools combine a data catalog, a business glossary, data lineage, ownership workflows and quality rules. Dawiso brings all of them together, and each one works on the same asset.

How it works

Follow one metric through Dawiso

Watch the column GROSS_MARGIN_PCT pick up a layer at each step, from the first scan to an answer in an AI assistant.

  1. 01 Connect

    Connect your sources

Dawiso reads metadata from more than 30 sources, including Snowflake, Databricks, SAP HANA, Microsoft Fabric and Power BI. Scanning is read-only and copies no rows.

  2. 02 Catalog

Find any table, column or report

Everyone searches one catalog in plain language, typos included.

    AI in this step

AI drafts a description after each scan. A person approves it.

  3. 03 Glossary

Agree on what each number means

Each business term gets one approved definition, an owner and a version history. You link it to the columns and reports that use it.

    AI in this step

Help me write drafts the definition. The term owner approves it.

  4. 04 Lineage

See where the number comes from

Lineage follows the value from Snowflake through dbt to the Power BI report, down to columns where the source supports it. You see what breaks before you change anything.

    Learn more about data lineage
  5. 05 Ownership

    Give every asset an owner

The owner approves changes and the steward keeps the documentation current. Workflows send each change to the right person and keep the history.

See how teams share one understanding
  6. 06 Quality

Define quality next to the definition

Owners set quality checks and SLAs on a data product, next to its definition, and name the tool that runs each check, such as Soda, Monte Carlo or dbt.

  7. 07 Data products

Share it as a data product

Package approved tables into data products that people find and request in the Data Market. Each request goes to the product's approver with a reason attached, and each product carries its definition, owner and lineage.

  8. 08 AI

Answer AI questions with approved context

Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients query Dawiso through the MCP Server. They get the definition, owner and lineage along with the number.

For AI programs

Data governance for AI

An AI assistant that finds two definitions of gross margin may pick either one. Dawiso gives it the definition Finance approved, with owner and lineage, through the MCP Server.

  • AI tools sign in with the person's own Dawiso account and get only the tools that person's role allows.
  • Agents draft descriptions and definitions, and people approve them.
  • Dawiso works with the LLM you already run.

What is gross margin, and can I use GROSS_MARGIN_PCT for the regional review?

Gross Profit Margin is net revenue minus cost of goods sold, divided by net revenue (approved by Finance, v3). GROSS_MARGIN_PCT implements it. It comes from Snowflake through dbt and feeds the report Margin by Region. Owner: Finance controller.

Is Dawiso the right fit?

Dawiso fits when

  • Your data spans several platforms, such as Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, SAP and Power BI.
  • Business teams will own the definitions.
  • Your AI tools need approved context.

Look elsewhere when

  • You need master data management or a BI tool.
  • All your data sits on one platform and its built-in catalog covers you.
  • You want a standalone data quality engine.

Data governance software: frequently asked questions

What are examples of data governance tools?

Data governance tools include data catalogs, business glossaries, data lineage tools, data quality tools and access management tools. Platforms such as Dawiso combine several of them, so definitions, lineage and owners sit on the same asset. Many teams start in spreadsheets and move to a platform once their sources outgrow them.

What is the difference between a data catalog and a data governance tool?

A data catalog lists and describes data assets so people can find them. A data governance tool adds approved definitions, owners, approval workflows and rules on top of the catalog. Dawiso includes both.

Does Dawiso access our data?

Dawiso reads metadata only: schemas, columns, SQL logic and report structures. Scanning is read-only and copies no rows. For sources inside your network, the Dawiso Integration Runtime runs on your side and sends only metadata over outbound HTTPS.

How does Dawiso handle data quality?

Owners define quality checks and SLAs on each data product in Dawiso and name the tool that runs every check, such as Soda, Monte Carlo or dbt. Dawiso has no quality engine or anomaly detection of its own, so the checks themselves run in that tool.

Do AI tools respect user permissions?

Yes. Through the MCP Server, an AI tool signs in with the person's own Dawiso account and uses the same API and authentication as that person. It gets only the tools their role allows, and tools that change content are limited to the Contributor and Admin roles.

How long does implementation take?

Most teams start with one domain, such as Finance, and add the next once the first one works. P3 Logistic Parks reached full data governance in 78 days.

How much does data governance software cost?

Vendors price per user, per connector or by data volume, and enterprise plans are quoted individually. Dawiso charges per contributor, with viewers in a separate package and unlimited connectors; each contributor license covers up to 100,000 scanned objects. Plans are on the pricing page.
